Having played the last few matches with nine men, Masham were looking forward to gaining 4 points tonight bolstered by in-form man-of-steel Andrew Smith and, fresh from his house-cleaning duties, domestic god Heke. Tonight Smith would have just turned into a heap of iron oxide such was the deluge. Coombes and Sturdy had been netting ahead of the bottom of the table clash such is their committment, with both batsmen looking to build on their recent performances. Christian was again in the side with the team looking forward to seeing those glorious cover drives which graced the Gilling West outfield last week. Falshaw and Smart were both lined-up for more run-plundering. In-form Broadley had been warming his spin-fingers up all day and a late call-up for butcher Metcalfe highlighted Masham's renewed strength in depth.

Alas, it was all in vain. With scenes reminiscent of last year's great escape for Thorpe Perrow in the face of biblical floods the match was abandoned before the coach left the hotel.
