Match Report/Information

After last weeks embarrassment of not being able to raise a team, at least Tanfield managed to get 10 willing soles out on the field. WTCC captain James Stainthorp won the toss and elected to bat.

Tanfield's innings got of to a poor start as James Abel tried to break the ball, which unfortunately resulted in Mr Broadley jnr breaking his stumps. Masham's jubilation soon turned to despair however as Adam Hodgkinson (53 retd) and Sam Abel (50 retd) put together a partnership of 98 which turned out to be a match winning contribution. The Masham captain, Mr R Smart, must have feared a monumental total was on the cards and brought himslef into the attack, claiming 3-11 from 4 overs and leaving the capacity crowd wondering at Sleningford Park why he did not bowl from the start. Could have been a different game - who knows?

The Masham innings looked like following a familiar pattern to the Tanfield one however, with the occasionally big-hitting Falshaw despatched early, and a big partnership being built by the number 2 and 3 batsman. However, as has occured at Tanfield since most of the side were born, when the mighty WTCC are in trouble there is only one man to turn too. The Legend that is Tony Clark, who has to take pain killing injections to allow his shoulder to produce such devestation, first despatched of Mr R Buchanon (23) and Mr R Smart (41) before getting stuck into the middle order to finish with 5-23 from 5 overs. Johnny Luty backed Clark up well with decent figures of 2-11 from 5 overs.

West Tanfield ran out eventual winners by 28 runs.
