Match Report/Information
The Mighty MASH returned to the MCG knowing only a win would satisfy the last of the summer wine brigade.Cpt Smart's foray into Scotland depleted a somewhat beleaguered bowling attack, however into the team came Peg Leg Hill and Sickbed Heke to bolster the side.Acting Capt. Howard opted to bowl first on the back of some paltry batting displays in recent times.
Opening with the mystery spin of Broadley clearly confused MAVS bat Nicholson who ambled down the track, missed he ball and duly turned to see grinning Cool Hand Coombes removing the bail.Rich Carruthers looked in consumate form carressing the ball around the ground but then Delhi Belli Heke came on and ripped thro' the middle order leaving the Mavs at 66 for 8 and a bemused Carruthers looking on.In came Moseley to support Carruthers to his 51 and then with number 11 at the crease, on came Howard to deliver a delicious pie, which was dispatched to the car park, sending spectators running for cover, not to be deterred Howard kept faith with his plan and sure enough got his man with a ball which was later described by said batsmen, as the worst he's ever faced !!
There was a masterful piece of fielding by Tex Buchanon who with a bullet arm throw had a direct hit to run out
a forlorn batsmen trying desperately to get off a duck without success. So MAVS 116 for 8.
MASH batsmen Heke and Jones scored 44 and 32 respectively. The running between the wickets needs to improve but with Heke's Jippy Tummy and Club Foot Hill, it was never going to be! However all said and done Hill's experience got MASH over the line with 2 overs to spare, a solid performance from the lads.
Great game played in good spirits, thanks MAVS.
Can Captain Smart rally his troops for the remaining two games and so stave off relegation, all will be revealed.
Also there are rumours that the LEGEND is about to return !
