Match Report/Information

Watching the IPL before coming to the game tonight, I wondered if we could recreate Eden Gardens in the Dales. I was not to be disappointed. We played a game tonight which had everything, hat tricks although rare do come around now and again but never before have I seen four wickets in four deliveries and the poor lad wound up on the loosing side and this matched with the closest finish we have had in the Wensleydale league. Anyway on with the match report.

The game was played in an excellent spirit, I think all the players were keen to overcome the frustrations of the recent poor weather. The pitch although green and the outfield possibly a bit too long was the same for everyone and the NLW ground-staff could only be commended for getting the game on after the poor weather of recent weeks.
NLW won the toss and decided they would bat the opening pair making a ggod start until G Minnis took the wicket of N Hodges for 10 bringing S Hodges to the crease who added a few more with the stubborn Thomo Thompson
It was not until the twelfth over and the coming of David Earl and Harry Dick that the NLW wickets started to tumble with David Earl taking four NLW wickets in four balls 2 at the end of his second over and 2 at the start of his third.
This left NLW posting what the near capacity crowd thought would be a very chase-able total of 61.
However no one could have predicted what was to come. The Scruton innings started brightly the first three overs going for 15 with only the loss of Mellor for 2. This brought Paul Clemens to the crease and together with Ian Place they set about the task in hand with Ian Place hitting the boundaries and Paul playing a more supporting role with Ian and Paul going well Scruton's batsmen were enjoying the evening sunshine, when Thompson leapt like a salmon to catch Ian Place one handed for 18 and change the course of the game. Despite the contributions from Clemens, Wilson and Atkinson the lower order were unable to get Scruton out of the pickle they had created for themselves and wound up one run short when Mc cormack was out off the third ball of the eighteenth over. Thanks again to NLW for giving us such an enjoyable and exciting game cheers lads.
