Match Report/Information
On a lovely sunny evening for a change,Newton & Scruton played a most exciting game with the home team finally winning by 1 run. With a low slow wicket the bowlers made the batsmen toil, Newton batting first looked in a good position at 53-2 wkts to push on in the final overs with wickets in hand. But an excellant spell from D.Earl saw him take 4 wkts in 4 balls finishing with 5 for 7 and Newton were all back in the pavillion for 61. David Thompson stubbingly hanging round for 17 runs in 14 overs.
In reply Scruton looked like they would reach there target without any trouble especially with opener Ian Place looking comfortable and the score on 44-2, but a bowling change from Newton and an amazing one handed catch from Dale Thompson saw Place out for 18. Suddenly Newton had hope and another collapse saw Scruton 59-9. With the last two needing 3 to win they scrambled a bye before there last man popped an easy catch to Newtons M.O.N Nick Hodges as they finished on 60 all out. Hodges taking 4-11 off 6 overs.
A really exciting game played in the best spirit from both teams and lets hope more of the same in the return game back at Scruton.
