Match Report/Information

Wagon bowled first with a relatively tight start, but resulting with early no break throughs. Allen came on after 8 overs and took one with his second ball followed by a soft run out with the batsman more concerned about avoiding the ball than getting back in his crease. In form Lumb entered the fray bowling tight and taking two more wickets, with Allen buying a wicket with a well taken catch in the deep by N Corner. Bailes finished off the innings with a tight over and the last wicket. Brompton finished their innings with a gettable 90.
Wagon went out to bat with both openers on a king pair (both got golden ducks the last game they played). Instructions of 'Don't get out before we are on 20' were sent with them. This looked doubtful after a silly second run only avoided the simple run out by a basic mistake from Brompton's keeper with only 1 on the board. However, after this reprieve, both openers settled and, eventually, the runs came. Inevitably the first wicket fell to a run out, after Tweddle was bowled off a no-ball, much to the disgruntlement of the Brompton keeper (if the ball bounces 3 times it is a no-ball) which brought Allen to the crease with some early big hitting. Runs continued to come, but unfortunately so did wickets. Allen eventually fell to a change of bowling with the best catch the keeper will ever take. A Coner then ran when Greenwood didn't and made his way back, quickly followed by K Lumb, N Corner and T Graham. P Lumb was caught in the PLumbs and had to crawl off he pitch LBW. Turton and Bailes needed 11 to win wit 3 overs remaining. They took us close, but Turtons off stump was taken and the game closed, with relieved cheers from the Brompton crowd.
All in all, a niggly game with two determined sides vying for top spot. Well done to Brompton.
