On a lovely Wednesday evening we finally got our home season underway. Echos were circulating around the ground before bat off that this could be the season we make Gilling our fortress! But then we soon remembered that when we played spenny last season at their place the absolutely smashed us and bowled us out for something like 26.... echos were soon whispers... whispers were soon replaced by someone saying "maybe next week we'll try and make it our fortress?" because we lost again.
As always i won the toss (havent lost all season) and chose to bat.
Micky Lay and new partner Tommo opened and after an over it already looked like a great choice by the skip to drop slow balls Gary Nicholson and replace his with in 'in form' tommo. He was to reach 13 before he got dismissed and Micky 25. Wickets came quick after with Welshy, Beanz and Kiz getting a grand total of 0 but MASSIVE shouts out to MOZZA and GAZ NIC for making the 3 of them feel so much better about themselves as they went on to get GOLDEN DUCKS QUACK QUACK! Terrible efforts lads and if it wasnt for your sterling efforts in the field your asses would be dropped yo! Brown-dog made 5 and slops got a sloppy but alrightish 5 and we made 78 thanks to 20 extras.
We had a lot of work to do if we wanted to kick these little boys bottys off the park and another inspirational team talk by the skipper had everyone revved up! We knew what we had to do and by jon bon jesus we were going to give it one hell of a 'Mavs' go!....... we didnt as we were pretty shite in the field! This was definitely the funniest innings of fielding ive seen all season with the likes of Kizzys attempts of catching and sliding to keep the ball from going for a 4 with his foot (Ankles must hurt!) Sloppy in a world of his own practicing his football skills mid-over near the boundary, gaz nic slipping over in his amazing 'Ponys' (didnt think that was possible and im going to get in touch with Pony to see if they can sponsor us) and Mozza..... letting Furbs run for the ball when it was right near him and generally being a lazy gimp cyclist in the field, sort it out VICE!
So after weeing in my panties a little it was soon over and they once again smashed our crappy backdoors in. But we have great belief in this team and we will bounce back next week coz "WE ARE MAVS" and were cool as f**k! See you all next week.
