Match Report/Information

The first meeting of Wagon and Middleham, due to previous rain affected game, saw Middleham win the toss and stick Wagon in.  Wagon were looking for their 4th win of the season, meaning a round on Captain Tweddle and, changing their opening line up, continued to open with Stephens but changing the other to Graham. Second over resulted in the loss of J Stephens and bringing Allen to the crease.  Allen started opening up a little, resulting in a couple or three sixes. An expensive drop was shelled at cover, resulting in Allen staying at the crease. Tommy looked to attack further, but lost his wicket skipping down the track being stumped. Tweddle joined Allen and, after another couple of big hits, Allen was retired for 50 with 5 overs left. Not expecting to reappear, pads were taken off. However, never underestimate the situation as Wagon lost quite a few wickets quickly as Allen had to reappear with 2 balls left. Wagon innings finished 9 for 83.
Middleham's turn to take the helm. Tweddle opened the bowling and took the first wicket with his 4th ball bowling the opener off his pads, closely followed by his 2nd wicket, caught silly mid off. Allen took the other end and took the 3rd wicket, clean bowled. An excellent start for the Wagon.  Tight overs kept the runs down but took a while before the 4th wicket was taken due to an excellent fought and bowled by Tweddle. Middleham were struggling with the run rate as wickets continued to tumble with Allen taken bowling two more. A change brought P Lumb an M Bailey on. Both continued to bowl tightly with Lumb unlucky not to take a wicket.  Bailey seemed to be the bowler Middleham targeted, unsuccessfully, resulting in him taking 4 wickets in his 3 overs, 2 caught in the deep and 2 bowled, with a little grip and turn deceiving the batsmen. Middleham all out for 25.
An excellent spirt to the two teams first encounter, well done to all taking part.
