Match Report/Information

After fighting through the crowd of cows to park up, Wagon arrived at Newton – Le – Willows expecting to do better than the previous week’s loss. Wagon batted first with a shake-up in the order. This saw a new opening partnership of Allen and Tweddle. Tweddle struggled and only lasted a couple of overs before being bowled by opening bowler, Wilkinson, with a well-directed Yorker. Graham arrived at the crease and was quickly off the mark with a top edge for 4. Allen continued at the other end with a couple of singles, before finding his feet driving a few 4’s. Graham fell, quickly followed by previous opener, Stephens as Allen started freeing his arms smashing a few 6’s, including one that landed with a thud on a very large bull’s back, leaving the fielder a little wary when collecting the ball from the field. A final 6 saw Allen retire on 52, but this wasn’t the end of the boundaries. A Corner continued with some big hitting with several well placed 4’s and a large 6 over mid-wicket, is first. Lumb entered the fray, confident of his new position in the order, sweeping a four before eventually being caught, as A Corner went in similar fashion for a well played 22. B Greenwood also took the initiative and sent the ball out of the ground for his first 6, along with another 4 before eventually being bowled for 15 as, at the other end; N Corner tried to hit the ball over the top but didn’t quite make it after being caught by an excellent one handed catch in the deep. Enter Turton and Bailey with some unusual leaves, excellent shots and comedy running with more diving than Swan Lake. An excellent innings resulted in a total of 134 set.
