Match Report/Information
Sportsmanship: 10
Man of the Match: o mullard (one for the future well bowled young man)
on a lovely bright sunny evening, both sides looking to start their season with a win, Middleham won the toss and decided to make use of what on the face of it looked a good track.Craig Marshall celebrated his call up to Richmondshire firsts with a sublime innings despatching the ball to all corners of the ground before retiring at the requisite 50. This left Calvert(33) and A Beales(17) to carry on the onslaught. however with the retirement of Marshall the wickets started to fall especially to Wilson who finished up with a season's best 4 for 26 off 5 overs. However when the last batsman was out Marshall came back in and continued to get an unbeaten 74 until he ran Beales out with four balls of Middleham's twenty overs left. Finishing on an above par 167.
This left the Scruton brains trust with some thinking to do. Aggression was called for and their two big hitters were to go up the order the plan worked at first as Andrew Wilson put Middleham's bowling to the sword however when Andrew missed a straight one off the bowling of Calvert and Scruton's Saturday team Skipper Steve Brass followed the ball after Scruton, were never going to get the 8 an over required with only Harry Dick (15) and Chris Atkinson (22 not out) the only other batsmen to trouble the scorers. A great evenings entertainment played in the best of spirits.:
