Match Report/Information
In what now seems to have become a Wednesday night tradition, West tanfield failed to field a full complement of cricketers. This time 9 were found, of varing enthusiam. Of that 9, only one person could be classified as something anywhere near resembling a bowler so it was no suprise that Richmond won the toss and elected to bat. The one 'bowler' in question was Tanfield junior Sam Hodgson, and it was to everyones relief that he bowled roughly in the viscinity of the opposition stumps and took 3-38 from 6 overs. As for everyone else who had the misfortune to be asked to turn their arm over, the phrase 'buffet bowling' comes to mind. It is doubtful the Richmond batters will have the chance to score easier runs, but on a difficult wicket the occasional ball (and i mean occasional) did trouble them. C Swainston amassed 67 and with M Fleming also adding 51 more time was spent locating the ball in the hedge than actually playing cricket. Tanfield's decision to open with the big hitters misfired dramatically, with the score been at 8-3 at one stage, but 17 from both Andy ganderton and Chris Davies steadied the ship and a brisk 24 from John Craddock ensured a complete thrashing was avoided. The inevitable occured in the 15 over, with S Charlton bowling particularly well (3-7 from 5).
