Match Report/Information
Wacky Wednesdays continued tonight with Masham demonstrating their strength in depth as a
full squad turned up despite the football on the telly. A mutinous mood met captain Abbottson and
deputy Smart and the concensus saw them both promptly dropped to the bench, such was quality available.
Brown and McGregor made steady progress for the visitors until McGregor skied a Flash Bang Falshaw leg-cutter to the newly elected president of the Masham Wheelers Cycling Club, Tim Howard at midwicket. As a reward for such fielding prowess and athleticism, Howard was given the ball and promptly removed Melbourne who marmalized a half-tracker towards the Ure only to find Sturdy with pinpoint precision. Either side of the big feller and it would have been a six. Noonan didn't trouble the scorers; Falshaw dug in a short one to unsettle the new batsman and a quick off-cutter was reminiscent of the Falshaw of old. What an impressive length! Tommo rattled a few runs and the NLW innings was complete with 88 on the board.
Man of the Match Isacc Jones (jnr) and the arch-angel opened Masham's innings. Gabriel hit some solid shots but only managed to pick out the fielders and a single before being bowled by the accurate McGregor. Jones went on to steer the side home with a classy 26 not out and some lusty blows from Ron Buchannon saw the big Texan reach his half century and retirement in only 23 balls.
Yet another quality evening's entertainment at the rec as Masham's summer of sport continues unabated. Football? What football?
