Match Report/Information

Good, tight game generally played in a decent spirit. Spennithorne won the toss and chose to bat on a somewhat dull evening. After the loss of an early wicket T.Mawer & V.Greaves-Newall steadily built up the score against some accurate bowling from Z.Spence and A.Richardson. After 12 overs A.Randall was introduced into the attack and had an instant impact, taking 2 wickets in his first over and reducing Spenni to 61-5.

D.Walker joined T.Mawer at the wicket to steady the ship and the pair managed to bat through the rest of the overs to take the score to 107-5, the latter ending on an excellent 63*.

The Newton innings started shakily with D.Walker and V.Greaves-Newall reducing them to 7-3 and then 19-4. R.Gaze then dismissed the dangerous A.Wilthew (22) and A.Richardson (11) before wicket keeper T.Mawer took off his gloves and bowled 4 overs, taking the last 2 wickets, including dangerman D.Thompson for 13.

Thanks to young Joseph Walker, 10, for his excellent fielding and great enthusiasm!
