In there last fixture of the season and 1st division exsistance Newton(David) hosted Richmondshire NYSD(Goliath).
Goliath won the toss and decided to get some much needed batting practise. With the first two pebbles quickly dispatched to the boundry Davids sling had no answer to Goliaths sword. But then for a brief moment Goliaths knee's buckled as they quickly lost 3 wickets for 17 on the board. This angered Goliath who then went on to beat David into submission over the next 9 overs scoring 98 runs before C.Swainston returned to the hut with 63 runs off only 26 balls. Youngster R.Carr remained until the last over before been run out for a fine 53. Goliath finishing on 154 for the loss of 6 wickets.
With David still licking his wounds there was little chance of a repeat slaying and they quickly lost there first 5 wickets for only 30 runs scored, skipper A.Melbourne contributing 19 of those with a discolated finger. Once he left for hospital it was left to I.Noonan 21 and G.Thompson 23 not out to drag David into 3 figures before there innings finished on 108 all out. Goliaths S.Charlton taking 3 for 9 the best of the visitors attack. A.Cocks, C.Barlow and R.Carr all taking 2 wickets apiece. David now relegated to the 2nd division(the promised land). hallelujah
