Match Report/Information

Spennithorne finally ensured another season in the top flight with a comfortable
victory over the 'superstars' of Thorp Perrow. After a slow start, reaching 35-2
from the opening 10 overs, J. Coatsworth bowling an excellent spell of 0-7 from
his 5, Spenni took advantage of the weaker of the Thorp bowlers with 58 runs
coming from the last 10 overs. The pick of the Spenni batting were T. Mawer and,
later in the innings, R. Gaze, who hit 28 and 31 not out respectively. The most succesful of the bowlers being R. Hammerton with figures of 4-5 from his 2 overs.

After the mid game photo shoot the 'stars' came out to bat brimming with
confidence, only needing 94 to win the game and go the whole season unbeaten.
The bowling was opened by father and son combo Simon and Daniel Walker, who
between them accounted for the top 3 inside the first 20 balls. All was not doom
and gloom in the Perrow camp as a partnership of 29 between Randall and Fishburn
steadied the ship before the former had his stumps demolished by S. Walker's
'quicker one'. At 35 for 4 with the majority of the batsmen back in the pavilion
it was looking a little shady for the champs and things were about to get worse!

There soon followed a hilarious round of the 'yes-no' game where the non-striker said
no but his colleague, unfortunately for him, said yes, oops! This seemed to
rattle Perrow once again and almost completely dry up the flow of runs, the last
7.3 overs yielding a mere 11 runs as well as producing 2 more 'yes, no, yes, no,
oh s**t' moments, very entertaining from a neutral's point of view!

Throughout the Thorp Perrow innings Spenni fielded and bowled very well with all
the chances being held, a first this season, and each of the run out chances
being well taken. Excellent spells from D. Walker (1-17 from 5), S. Walker (3-19
from 6), V. Greaves-Newall (1-4 from 5), S. Monk (1-6 from 3) and R. Gaze (0-2
from the last over)

The game finished just before 9pm when, to be honest, the light was starting to
fade a little.

Luckily no players from either side were hit or injured by any of the toys that
were thrown out during the game! You know who you are, yes you do!!!
