Match Report/Information
Wacky Wednesdays returns for 2011 with the Masham misfits claiming a victory to see them draw level with Middleham after only one match. Yes, you read that correctly. (Administration, eh?)
"Tails never fails" was spinning through the captain's mind as fast as the coin through the air yet Smart inexplicable called heads. Middleham opted to make first use of the road yet got off to a sluggish start. Faced with the combined experience of, ooh, three seasons by junior bowling duo Gill and Broadley, Woodcock and co. could only watch as their bails were dislodged. At thirty-odd for seven it looked like we'd all get home for Corrie but then the Ewart took a distinct fancy to the bearded twins, Smith and Mushtaq Heke. 55 saw Ewart back in the hutch with a sporting declaration (Is that a new rule? We weren't at the meeting; see earlier) and Middleham struggled to 122. Johnny Coombes was drafted in off the plane on his return from Mali where he's been meeting his penfriend and his jetlag manifested itself in a few missed chances. Who knows what will happen when he gets back from his Thailand experience.
Masham opened their reply with Heke and Jones. Despite a little wobble mid-order initiated by Smith, sustained by Sturdy, super student Metcalfe, Gill, Coombes and finished by Smart (okay, it was little more than a mid-order wobble) imperious batting by the senior pro rounded off a good evening for the Broadley household.
A huge selection headache beckons for the selection committee next week with strong showings from all involved. Masham up to zero points in the table and looking good.
Thanks to Middleham for an enjoyable game.
